The Story Behind it All
l am a mosaic artist, living and working in Massachusetts. Art has always been an integral part of my life. Since childhood and throughout college, making art was a constant companion. Although there have been periods in adulthood when I stepped away, I’ve always found myself returning to drawing and painting in some form.
In 2022, I developed a compelling interest in mosaic art, which has since become my primary creative focus. While I am mostly self-taught, I have taken several classes to explore mosaic techniques and materials and continue to explore other self-taught methods that help make my work unique.
My artwork continues to evolve through my exploration, offering me a tactile way to express myself creatively. At present, I work with stained glass, ceramics, vintage jewelry and beads, and natural materials, such as stone and shells.
Often nature, as well as the materials’ properties, is my inspiration and significantly influences the development of a design. Reflecting on what and how best to use materials based on color and texture is my starting point. I focus on each piece of material, no matter how small, in relation to the next piece, rearranging each one until the piece intuitively ‘feels right’. At the heart of my work is discovering, assembling, and shaping often disparate materials into cohesive abstract and representational art.
